The Fourier Transform
Every signal is a sum of sine waves
Any reasonable function of time can be decomposed into a (possibly infinite) sum of pure sines and cosines, each with its own frequency and amplitude. This single fact is why MP3, JPEG, MRI scanners, your Wi-Fi, and almost every modern audio tool work. Sound, image, signal — all secretly waves stacked on waves.
