L-Systems
Letter-by-letter rewrites that grow into plants
An L-system (Lindenmayer system) starts with a string of letters and a handful of rewrite rules. At each step every letter is replaced according to the rules, simultaneously. Interpret the resulting string as a turtle-drawing command set and you get fractal ferns, coral, tree branches — botany derived from a few characters.
