Penrose Tilings
Tiles that fill the plane and never repeat
Roger Penrose's kite-and-dart tiling covers an infinite plane using only two tile shapes — but no finite section ever recurs exactly anywhere else. The pattern's symmetries are five-fold, forbidden by classical crystallography, and quietly governed by the golden ratio. Quasicrystals in nature copy the trick.
